Do you have a newly laying chicken who is dropping eggs all over the yard?
By putting some plastic eggs in the preferred laying location, you are providing her with some reassurance that it is a safe location where eggs are not stolen or eaten by predators and teaching her where to lay… a simple trick to trigger her natural urges.
Also particularly useful when you have a broody chook and want to put some fertile eggs under her but are suspicious of her level of dedication to the hatching cause. Plastic eggs are a no risk way of testing whether she will ‘stick’ on them or abandon them, without ruining your valuable fertile eggs.
We recommend having a clutch of three plastic eggs, to mimic a natural nest configuration.
